Grade Calculator

Enter your scores and category weights. See your current course grade instantly.

The Grade Calculator shows your current standing in any course. It works with weighted grading systems, where tests might count for 40%, homework for 30%, and quizzes for 30%.

Most college and high school courses grade by category. Your professor sets a weight for each category. Your score within each category is calculated separately. Then the categories are combined using those weights.

This tool handles that math for you. Add each grading category. Enter the weight. Enter your scores. Your current grade shows up in real time.

Not sure what you need on an upcoming test? After you see your current grade, head to the Final Grade Calculator to find out exactly what score will get you where you want to be.

How Weighted Course Grades Are Calculated

Say your class has three categories. Tests are worth 50%. Homework is worth 30%. Participation is worth 20%.

You scored 78% on tests so far, 92% on homework, and 100% on participation.

Multiply each score by its weight: 78 times 0.50 equals 39. 92 times 0.30 equals 27.6. 100 times 0.20 equals 20.

Add them together: 39 plus 27.6 plus 20 equals 86.6. Your current grade is 86.6%, which is a B.

This calculator handles that math the moment you type your scores. No manual calculation needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

A weighted course grade is calculated by multiplying your percentage score in each grading category by that category's weight, then adding the results together. For example, if tests count for 50% and you scored 82%, that category contributes 41 points. If homework counts for 50% and you scored 90%, that contributes 45 points. Your total course grade would be 41 plus 45, which equals 86%. Each category's weights must add up to 100% for the calculation to be accurate.
If you have not completed all assignments in a category yet, your score in that category reflects only what has been graded so far. This gives you a running average, not a final grade. The Grade Calculator shows your current standing based on completed work. To project your final grade, estimate your expected scores on remaining assignments, enter them, and watch the total update.
Gradebook software like Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle calculate weighted grades the same way, but small differences can appear due to rounding, dropped lowest scores, or extra credit. If your teacher drops the lowest quiz grade, do not include that grade in your calculation. If your course has extra credit, add it as a separate category. If scores still do not match, check whether your syllabus lists weights as percentages or points.
Yes. The Grade Calculator works for any course with weighted grading categories, whether in high school, community college, or a four-year university. Enter the category names, weights, and your scores exactly as listed on your syllabus. The formula is the same regardless of grade level.
